Community Input Meeting for White Stadium
Please join your neighbors to discuss alternative solutions for the White Stadium renovation. While we have been told by the City that the “only way” the stadium could be renovated would be to do so in partnership with a professional sports team, we know that this is not true. There is a better way to do this while preserving parkland, school and community access, and not disrupting the neighborhood with increased traffic and parking issues.
Let’s envision something better for our community and schoolchildren! Please take a look at one such alternative proposal that would cost a fraction of what the City is currently proposing. Then, come to Lena Park and bring your ideas!

Speak for the Trees in Franklin Park
Speak for the Trees invites you to gather to celebrate the spirit of nature and honor the trees that grace our lives.
Living Experience Outdoors: We Gather to Honor the Trees
Date: Sunday, December 22, 2024
Time: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Location: White Stadium, Franklin Park 450 Walnut Ave., Boston
We call Her Elder Mother Tree.
She stands as a symbol of resistance and resilience, teaching us the importance of life and connection. Yet, this healthy tree, along with many others in Franklin Park, faces the threat of removal as part of a development plan to renovate White Stadium.
Join us in raising our collective energy, celebrating the spirits of nature, and protecting these precious trees. Through songs, poetry, art, and the exchange of ideas, we’ll come together in community to safeguard this sacred space.
Your voice matters. Your presence matters. Let’s honor and protect the life that sustains us all.
Warm regards,
Speak for the Trees

A fabulous landscape architecture and engagement firm has been hired by the Boston Parks Department to work with community stakeholders about their vision for the Overlook Shelter Ruins, home of the original Elma Lewis Playhouse in the Park. Many at FPC hope we can re-create a performance space at the site.
Elma Lewis was one of Boston’s most revered cultural icons. In the 1950s, she founded the Elma Lewis School for Fine and Performing Arts, where thousands of African-American children and adults learned cultural history, explored their creativity, and cultivated their artistic skills. In the 1960s, Miss Lewis and her students cleared an overgrown area in Franklin Park where the Overlook Shelter had burned and then erected the Playhouse stage to create an open-air performance venue.
From 1966–1978, Playhouse events were held every single night from July 4th through Labor Day. Musical legends like Duke Ellington, Olatunji and his drum of Africa, the Billy Taylor Trio, and Odetta, graced the Playhouse stage.
Come participate and dream of what you want in this area of the park!

Stand Out for Franklin Park!
Please join your neighbors as we Stand Out and Speak Up for Franklin Park this Monday, Oct. 28, from 4:30-6 PM at the main entrance to White Stadium, 450 Walnut Ave., Roxbury. The theme of this Stand Out will be to protect the trees and wildlife that will be impacted if the Boston Unity Soccer Partners proposal for the renovation of White Stadium goes through. We feel this overbuilt plan will impact the park adversely. We support White Stadium being renovated for the Boston Public Schoolchildren and Community but NOT for a for-profit entity.
