Mayor MIchelle Wu has unilaterally chosen to destroy dozens of mature trees as part of her demolition of White Stadium. EJ4Franklin Park and The Franklin Park Defenders (FPD), deem this to be a reckless, irresponsible and wrongful act.
Important Facts:
Mayor Wu’s chainsaws fired up on Valentine’s Day, hours after a meeting to discuss
the first/only alternative plan for White Stadium.Neither Mayor Wu nor her representatives chose to attend this critical community discussion.
This appalling action took place three weeks after the Boston City Council was deadlocked in a 6-6 tie vote to pause all demolition activity.
Numerous and critical unresolved project concerns remain unanswered and require proper community engagement to do so fully and appropriately.
Litigation on the legality of Mayor Wu’s plan will begin on March 18, 2025.
FPD’s alternative plan would renovate, not entirely demolish, White Stadium for the exclusive use of Boston Public School students and the general public.
The FPD plan would fulfill the mission of the stadium, save taxpayers $70 million dollars, and protect and enhance Franklin Park.
